You Can’t Handle The Truth

This week, a long article about the inevitability of AI took social media by storm. The prediction (and engagement farming) is that in short order AI will bring about the End Times.

Nevertheless, in my experience, AI sometimes works, sometimes not. In the fields of law and medicine, AI botches answers all the time. In fact, AI platforms make significant disclaimers around these topics.

Ironically, the place where I’ve found AI to be the strongest is in psychology and understanding human nature.

For example, I asked ChatGPT why every woman on every dating app is obsessed with travel/adventure/exploring new cities. (In reality, travel is objectively awful: massive cost, hassle, and exhaustion.) AI’s explanation was that for women on dating apps, travel is part of the cultural script and a form of virtue signaling.

In response, ChatGPT helped me write for my own dating profile a friendly but firm objection to travel. The result, predictably, is that my profile no longer gets any Likes. ChatGPT said that with my current anti-travel profile, Liking me would make women admit something about themselves. They know they’re exaggerating their commitment to a passport-ready lifestyle, but they need to protect their ego. In short, I became a mirror. I’m forcing them to opt out of the performance early.

“I live/want to live a healthy lifestyle”

On the other hand, I’m psyched about the dating profiles that express an interest in health. I feel the same way. In fact, I think my shirtless profile pictures give me instant credibility.

Health is an easy conversation starter for me. I can Like a woman’s profile or image to launch an app’s messaging features. Then I can share some advice tailored to the woman’s specific profile.

In the past couple months, I’ve made several genuine, supportive recommendations:

1) Take off your sunglasses, especially in the photos where you’re making an effort to get sun. Almost every cell in your body contains a circadian clock. Circadian synchronization via your light environment is the primary driver of mitochondrial health and therefore overall wellness. Circadian optimization means: strong daytime signals + strong nighttime signals + consistency. If you block solar information from reaching the opsins in your eyes, and therefore your brain, your body’s circadian signals start to unravel.

2) Stop eating after sundown. The pictures of you enjoying a nighttime meal represent a spectacular error. Food is a circadian zeitgeber, so eating at night disrupts your circadian consistency. In addition, because your body is primed for sleep, not food, your insulin sensitivity has dropped, while glucose spikes are higher and last longer. It’s a great way to get fat.

3) Ditch the smoothies. Your green drink is loaded with oxalates and other plant defense chemicals which can irritate your gut and contribute to inflammation. You’re also concentrating a lot of fructose into a single portion that is quickly consumed.

As an aside, I came across a woman whose profile said, “I can jump rope better than you.” I told her that’s bullshit.

Obviously, I’ve never received a reply to any of my health-related messages. I understand why. These women know they’re exaggerating their commitment to a healthy lifestyle, but they need to protect their ego. In short, I became a mirror. I’m forcing them to opt out of the performance early.
