Why does a lack of sun exposure cause heart disease?
My college-aged daughter has just finished her slog through her required course in basic chemistry. I tell her that while the work was a pain, her new knowledge enables her to understand recent breakthroughs in health science. Her face lights up when we talk about these exciting ideas because she recognizes the terminology.
Liquid crystalline water
The principles of chemistry explain how water molecules organize into ordered structures. In 2014, bioengineer Gerald H. Pollack showed that water has a 4th phase (beyond solid, liquid, gas). When water is exposed to infrared energy or sunlight, H20 will spontaneously eliminate hydrogen ions and transform into a negatively charged H302 lattice that behaves like a gel.
In humans, this liquid crystalline water is found as a thin, continually regenerating coating on blood vessels. Liquid crystalline water not only creates a protective layer inside blood vessels, but also forms a highly lubricated surface that facilitates flow.
Maverick doctors have recognized the connection between Pollack’s discovery and cardiovascular disease. They remark that heart disease starts when the endothelium (a thin layer of cells that line the inside of blood vessels and the heart) loses the ability to generate liquid crystalline water. Once this protective coating is lost, the endothelium is easily damaged by toxins in the bloodstream:
- Chemicals
- Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and free radicals
- Inflammatory proteins
- Bacteria and viruses
- Glucose and advanced glycation end-products (AGEs)
- Microplastics
As a result, the functioning of the cardiovascular system reaches terminal decline.
Sunlight and the formation of liquid crystalline water
Sunlight plays a critical role in the formation of liquid crystalline water.
- When UV light contacts skin, the body produces sulfate molecules that serve as the foundation for the formation of liquid crystalline water.
- Sunlight, both infrared and UV, provide the energy source that generates the liquid crystalline water itself.
Put another way, a lack of sun exposure is one of the key causes of heart disease. According to the largest study of its size, avoiding the sun makes one 230% more likely to die of cardiovascular disease compared to those with frequent sun exposure.
For us liberal arts majors, without a chemistry background, there’s no reason to be intimidated by the science, however. In fact, there’s a simple shortcut to understand the foundation of health. Just go outside.
